In Fifth Grade students will learn about art in a new and fun way and build upon skills that they learned last year! It is important to me to keep the excitement of play that young students inherently have when it comes to making art but also teaching and instilling an understanding of what they are doing and foster a growth mindset when it comes to making art that has deeper meaning.

We will focus on answering the question "How does an artist know when a work is finished?" in fifth grade. This broad big idea will help students start to think about art in a new way and how we can learn to access ourselves and our work. Being able to critique your work and know when a piece is finished is an important skill for an artist to have. Students will learn how to constructively help their peers assess their work as well as their own. While learning how to know when a work is done students will explore and be able to draw freely using a blind contour drawing technique as well as understanding pressure control and how that can effect a work of art. Students will explore the idea of unity within a work of art, dive deeper into 2d and 3d work and further explore color theory through tints and highlights. Together we will explore many different beautifully illustrated books, such as Sky Color, Dot and Ish.

As the year progresses I will share all of the amazing work that the students complete on this webpage.
