Data Based Decision Making & Rate of Improvement

Data based decision making is a process of using appropriate data collected to inform and drive each instructional decision. Cut scores must be established based on the universal screening. These cut scores identify students who are “at risk.” As a guide, students below the 25%ile would be considered “at risk” and 10%ile would be the most “at risk” and in possible need of Tier II intervention.

School based RTI2 teams (or grade level teams) will review universal screening data and determine which students require targeted intervention as well as the level of intervention necessary to meet their needs. Teams trying to determine the root cause of a student’s difficulty might consider using analysis charts.

Teachers can use survey level screening tools for reading, math, and written expression to go deeper into the problem and tailor the intervention to exactly what the student needs!
