Texas Congress

Unit Overview: This unit will simulate the legislature process of how ideas becomes bills then laws in the state of Texas. Student will identify issues, research topics, drafting bills, debating bills, presenting and participation of bills in a mock congress. Students will form specific committees for this process and the whole class will become their own congressional platform for introducing their bills. Roles and congressional procedures will be executed by the students as part of the final project process.

Learning Objectives:

• Students will form committees to research, study and draft a bill
• Students will discuss, debate, and present their bills to Congress for consideration to become a law
• Students will perform specific legislator roles as part of Texas Congress
• Students will identify specific issues in Texas, United States, and application to the global world.
• Students will be able to work effectively and diplomatically in a political situation.
