Unit Overview: This Unit examines the concept of republic. These lessons address the period of Texas history when Texas was an independent republic. Students learn about the problems facing the new government and the issues surrounding the annexation of Texas to the United States, leading to the outbreak of the Mexican War. Students will learn about the democratic process of government and how issues, problems, and concerns are solved.

Analyze the causes and events leading to Texas Annexation to the States
