Meet the Teacher
Courtney Briggs
Hello Purple Pups. I am Courtney Briggs, one of Lanier's amazing 6th Grade Science Teachers. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science focusing on Psychology with a minor in Kinesiology from Sam Houston State University. This will be my 3rd year teaching science, but my first year at Lanier. In my spare time, I love to grow plants, read science fiction books and workout. I am super excited to grow with your students and help them achieve their goals.
Class overview
Grade 6 science is interdisciplinary in nature; however, much of the content focus is on physical science. This year we will focus on scientific investigations and reasoning. To develop a rich knowledge of science and the natural world, students must become familiar with different modes of scientific inquiry, rules of evidence, ways of formulating questions, ways of proposing explanations, and the diverse ways scientists study the natural world and propose explanations based on evidence derived from their work.

Unit 4 – Earth Science
Unit 5 – Space and Astronomy
Unit 6 – Cells and Taxonomy
