The Century Mural - capturing Hogg’s diversity and culture
In honor of 100 years of Hogg, the art team is trying to show everything the school has to offer, old and new. The mural on the second floor represents all the diversity this school experiences in everyday life. From academics to athletics this mural shows what Hogg stands for: community, love, passion, and togetherness.
Many of the art students have helped Mrs. Ozanic with this mural. Every student had their own part and piece, but it is all the pieces combined that make this such an inspiring and beautiful mural.
This is not the first time Ozanic and her art crew have done murals at this school.
The murals are all unique. For example, there is the “Around The World - Global Architecture” mural from 2017 which is filled with patterns, color, signs, major monuments, and iconic landmarks. It has a variety of different countries and cultures included.
“We try our best to portray messages through art. That is why we have some student help to get different perspectives and ideas,” said Ms. Ozanic.
Among the many perspectives, eighth grader Alison Willson learned new art techniques while working on the mural. She also likes that art has helped spread her messages and ideas visually. The mural took a lot of time, but she thinks it was worth it to leave her mark.
“It is the representation of Hogg over the 100 years of being a school! I learned how to paint windows and make crisp lines in painting. I enjoyed being able to show how Hogg has changed academically and athletically over the years through art,” she said.
Just like many others, seventh grader Riley Twyford enjoyed the sense of community it created.
“It shows equality! On one side is the old, and the other side is the new. I really enjoyed including everyone with the diverse setting! The time was spent working hard, and it was so worth it!” she said.
Many people love how the mural can help express everyone's personality and culture.
“It represents unity and all the sports, it expresses everyone. I learned responsibility and also got to strengthen my art skills,” she said.
