CRAFT & CONVENTION LESSONS are brief focus lessons on how to do specific skills that writers need. This instruction may be given in a whole group should it be an introduction or an area of need by all your students. Use small group instruction when students are grouped according to similar needs. Should the student need more specific instruction then these lessons may be used for individual instruction.
1. Link each lesson to one of the 5 STEPS of the writing process.
2. Each will guide the students through the process of "how to ..."
Examples: Brainstorming Ideas, Make a List, Narrow a Topic, Use Personal Experiences, Interview, Use Print Sources, Sequence Ideas, Use a Story Planner, etc.
3. Follow the instructional model to introduce, model, review, engage, share
3. These lessons may be integrated with MODELLED AND SHARED WRITING lessons or be used alone to provide extra support for students.
