In each school students are asked to nominate three of their own peers they feel comfortable talking to. These peers then have the opportunity to become members of the Hope Squad.
Hope Squad members are students nominated for being:
Concerned about others
Kind and understanding
Caring
Compassionate
Trustworthy
Easy to talk with
A good listener and helping hand
Someone you could turn to if you needed a friend
Someone who does not bully others
From Hope Squads in Ohio, USA:
"When advisors ask students to list the names of 3 peers they would talk to, they also ask the students to list one male and one female staff member they would talk to if they were in distress. Those teachers are asked to be a part of the work, be it in an advisor capacity or in some other way."
