The Hononegah Community High School Instrumental Music Program is part of an inclusive program to allow students the opportunity to perform in a variety of ensembles.
The Concert Band is designed as an ensemble for incoming Freshmen who have been playing in the various, non-related middle schools. Since we are a single high school district, students are at a variety of levels coming into the high school and therefore the Concert Band (music level 1.5-3+) is a melting pot from all of the middle schools allowing the students to form a cohesive ensemble before moving into the Symphonic Band or the Wind Ensemble. The ensemble may also participate in concert band festivals and contests.
The Symphonic Band is the next level concert ensemble. The Symphonic Band (music level 2-4+), is a great ensemble to help prepare students for the Wind Ensemble if they are not already playing to that level. The ensemble may also participate in concert band festivals and contests.
The Wind Ensemble is the top concert ensemble prepares music at an high school up to professional level of play. There are concerts throughout the year that these ensemble may be combined to perform together as a large ensemble and other times when they may play in smaller ensembles (solo/ensemble). The ensemble may also participate in concert band festivals and contests.
The Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned curricular ensemble that meets during the school day as a class. The Jazz Band performs at four concerts throughout the year, plus 3-5 basketball games, and outside festivals and competitions. The ensemble performs music in a variety of styles (Swing, Rock, Funk, Latin) and levels of difficulty (music level 2-6).
The Marching Band is comprised of the curricular ensembles of the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble as well as other members of the school that are able and willing to put in the same amount of time for rehearsal and practice. The Marching Band performs for Football Games, Roscoe Fall Festival Parade, the HCHS Homecoming Parade, the Rockton Memorial Day, and other various activities in the community.
The Basketball Pep Band is comprised of the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, although typically they will be split out by ensemble to play at a variety of Girls and Boys Basketball Games. The ensemble performs a variety of Pep Band and Marching songs to help "Pep-Up" the crowd. Most years, students will perform at 3-5 games.
Guitar I is designed as an introductory level of guitar. Students do not need to have any previous experience with a musical instrument or reading musical notation or tablature.
