At our school, the Year 2 writing program follows Casey the Caterpillar, a structured approach that helps build a strong foundation in handwriting and letter formation. This method supports students in developing fine motor skills and a clear understanding of letter shapes and writing patterns. In Term 1, our focus will be on recount writing, where students will learn to structure their writing by sequencing events in order. They will practice using time connectives, descriptive language, and punctuation to create detailed and engaging recounts of their personal experiences. Through modelled, shared, and independent writing activities, we aim to strengthen their confidence and ability to express themselves effectively in writing.

This term, we are learning how to write recounts. A recount is a way to retell something that really happened, like a trip, a fun day, or something we did at school.

We are learning to use time words like first, next, then, and finally. We write about who was there, what happened, and how we felt.
