Te Whāriki, the early childhood education curriculum in Aotearoa places a strong emphasis on the importance of te reo Māori. It recognizes the language as central to the identity, culture, and heritage of Māori children, and promotes the revitalization and use of te reo Māori across the early childhood education system.
In Room 4, tamariki are supported to learn te reo Māori through many ways. These include simple greetings, instructions, phrases, commands, interactions, routines, songs, prayer, dance, books, myths and legends, games, dance, sport, art and gardening, to name a few.
