“What a cool opportunity! I absolutely loved working on this project” shares Katelyn Cody ’22, who goes on to describe the work as having “real-world impact.”

Pothos Corporate Responsibility Consulting Project

Pothos plants often symbolize determination, perseverance, wealth, and good fortune. The pothos plant thrives under challenging circumstances, making the most of limited resources like light and water, and its heart-shaped leaves clean the air. The pothos plant improves its environment while ensuring its own growth and flourishing. Through the Pothos Project, students help Holy Cross and our local business community do the same, becoming more sustainable on their way to prosperity and good fortune.

The hybrid (in-person and virtual) Pothos Project, from March 13 - April 18, 2023, will give students the opportunity to practice real-world corporate responsibility consulting with guidance from Holy Cross alumni, while working to make our community more sustainable.

Over the six week project, participants will attend interactive sessions with HC alums and select businesses, learning about the consulting field and its distinctive recruitment process. As participants collaborate with an organization on a real-world consulting assignment that aims to increase corporate responsibility, participants will practice some of the skills and tricks needed for the job. Alumni mentors will provide guidance and support throughout the program. By participating in the Pothos Project, students will:

  • Attend alumni Q&A and group mentoring sessions.

  • Network with select consulting and business organizations.

  • Experience a real-world corporate responsibility consulting assignment.

  • Engage with the B Corporation assessment tool.

  • Collaborate with fellow Holy Cross students to analyze a corporate responsibility problem.

  • Present an operational recommendation to organizational representatives.

Pothos welcomes all Holy Cross students to apply, regardless of their experience with business, consulting, or sustainability. The Pothos Project is limited to 16 student participants, prioritizing juniors and seniors. Students can expect to commit to approximately four hours per week for a total of 20 hours during the program, concluding with a series of submissions and presentations during the final week.

The Pothos Project is co-sponsored by the Ciocca Center for Business, Ethics, and Society and the Office of Sustainability with faculty guidance from Professor Karen Teitel. Please contact Cathy Liebowitz, cliebowi@holycross.edu, with any questions.

Applications close February 15th.

How do past Pothos Project participants describe their experience? "Something I had never done before that gave me confidence in the skills I have learned or practiced as an undergraduate."
