Civitas is launching a new program called Pay It Forward: Mentoring for Civic Engagement. This program is meant to be an informal space where students can set up a time with another student to talk about civic engagement and getting involved in the community. (Available to current HC students only.)

*To sign up as a mentor, participant, or both, fill out this Google form.*

Program Description

Pay It Forward is an opportunity to connect student mentors with students who are interested in getting involved or learning more about civic engagement opportunities available through Holy Cross. Participants will be matched with student mentors who reflect similar interests or experiences. If interested, participants could be matched with more than one student mentor depending on their interests.

What is civic engagement?

Civic engagement calls us to reflect upon our role as citizens, the shared responsibility involved with living in a democracy, our common purpose, and community building. Civic engagement occurs through service that meets community-identified needs or through research, advocacy, and experience that holds promise of social or scientific value to the community.

Who are the student leaders?

Students with previous experience with Holy Cross civic engagement programs such as community-based learning, SPUD, community organizing, immersion trips, community service work-study, peer mentorship, and students involved in their local community. You!

Expectations:

  • Student leaders and participants complete an interest form.

  • Student leaders and participants would meet once via Zoom, Google Meet, and/or phone call.

  • Meeting date and time will be determined by student leaders and matched participants.

  • After the meeting, student leaders will complete a short contact form to document thoughts, concerns, or questions for further review by Civitas planning committee.

To sign up as a mentor, participant, or both, fill out this Google form. Someone from the Civitas team will be in touch with you soon to connect you with a fellow student!
