Digital Citizenship & Technology in Society

This course helps middle school students become thoughtful, capable, and ethical participants in a connected world. Students explore how digital tools, such as social media, artificial intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies, shape their daily lives, learning, and relationships. They learn to evaluate information, recognize bias and misinformation, protect privacy and security, and communicate responsibly in both online and offline spaces. Through real-world scenarios, mini projects, and discussion-based case studies, students develop practical skills for navigating misinformation, managing digital footprints, understanding how algorithms shape what they see, and using AI tools appropriately for school and everyday life. The course emphasizes empathy, integrity, and accountability, helping students make conscious, informed decisions about how they interact with technology. By the end of the course, students will be critical consumers of digital media, capable of using technology thoughtfully, ethically, and effectively in a rapidly evolving, connected world.
