Located in the Wellness and Campus Living Center on North Campus, Student Counseling Services provides mental health counseling to enhance well-being and promote a more meaningful and successful college experience. Individual and group counseling are available to students who may be experiencing emotional, behavioral, adjustment, or academic concerns. The collaborative counseling process is used to clarify problems; establish realistic goals; and develop active, short-term treatment solutions. Referrals to outside providers can also be offered to students seeking options for long-term individual therapy. Counseling services are provided by professional staff in a relaxed and confidential environment. Telehealth options for counseling support are available. For urgent assistance at times when the office is not open, students may contact the Department of Public Safety to connect with an on-call counselor. For students arriving on campus with existing mental health service needs, early identification of primary treatment providers and medication requirements is recommended.
Student Counseling Services also provides psychoeducational programming for students throughout the academic year on various topics related to college student mental health and wellness. To learn more about available services and to view a list of ongoing counseling groups, please visit hofstra.edu/studentcounseling.

We encourage all students to ask questions and alert us to any concerns they may have. Information can be found at hofstra.edu/shs.
All health information at Student Health Services is confidential, meaning it is not shared with parents, family members, or faculty. When required by law, regulations, emergency situations, or with the written approval of the patient, health information can be released.
Having your student take charge of their health care is essential to their well-being. We will do all we can to effectively care for your student and provide them with the resources they need.
There is no cost to be seen at Student Health Services. Laboratory testing, outside referrals, and some immunizations may be charged to insurance or provided out-of-pocket. Any costs can be discussed with the staff prior to the visit.
The easiest way for students to schedule an appointment is to log on to the Medicat app (hofstra.edu/medicat). Students may also call the office for an appointment at 516-463-6745. We are open during the semester from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday/Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. During the summer and winter breaks, we are open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Changes to business hours can be found online or by calling the office.
While appointments are preferred, students may walk in to the office and will be seen based on urgency and availability. Should a medical emergency occur, the student should call Public Safety (516-463-6789) for immediate attention. q
