We Are From
Second Grade
We are from jazz and Imagine Dragons,
watching movies with our family,
Descendants and Zombies.
We are from “Never give up.”
"Chazak!"
"We love you."
"Do your homework."
"Eat your vegetables."
We are from pitas, falafel, shawarma, hummus and challah,
rice and beans,
turkey and chicken,
our dad’s pasta,
crepes and espresso,
piggy buns and ćevapi,
and duk with red bean.
We are from shooting pucks,
roller coasters,
Lego sets.
We are from the beauty of butterflies and bees and Grandma’s tomato plant,
and trees—
under willow trees where it’s cool to study,
the tree in our backyard that’s been there since we were babies,
and the trees in the park we climb.
We are from the Israeli merkaz and the Philippines’ Mountain Street,
Hong Kong and Serbia,
countries all around the world,
kind people,
lots of love,
moments with our family,
moments when we feel loved.
