📚 The Story of Brumback Library
A long time ago, in 1890, twelve kind ladies in Van Wert, Ohio wanted to share books with everyone, so they started a small library with just 600 books. They held fun events and asked neighbors to donate $3 to help. A generous man named John Sanford Brumback, who was a successful businessman, saw how special their idea was. He believed that everyone in Van Wert County—not just one town—should be able to read and learn. When Mr. Brumback passed away in 1897, his family gave money to build a beautiful library in the city park. The first stone was placed in 1899, and the library opened on January 1, 1901. It became the first county library in the United States, which means it served people all across the county, not just in Van Wert. The building looks like a castle and was designed by David L. Stine, making it a special place to visit. Today, the Brumback Library still welcomes readers of all ages with books, fun programs, and a magical history that started with kindness and big dreams. 🏰📖
