Scott, Ohio was founded in 1882 and named after its founder, J.T. Scott. Located at the intersection of Van Wert and Paulding counties, the village began as a small rural settlement with strong agricultural roots. That same year, a post office was established, marking the beginning of Scott’s formal civic development. In its early years, Scott experienced rapid population growth, reaching 733 residents by 1890. However, over the next century, the population steadily declined due to changes in farming practices, economic shifts, and migration to larger towns. Despite its small size today—just 242 residents as of the 2020 census—Scott has maintained its identity as a close-knit community with a rich Midwestern heritage.
