As a Counseling Department, it is our top priority that we are support the whole student. In order to support all areas of our students' well being, we invest in our students' social and emotional health. Our Counseling Office has an open door policy in order to serve and meet the needs of our students at Hilmar High School.
Wellness Workshop September 19, 2023
The HHS Counseling Department prioritizes our student's mental health and overall wellness! We will be hosting monthly Wellness Workshops on topics that allow our students to be the BEST version of yourself.
All students have the opportunity to join us on Tuesday, September 19th for a Wellness Workshop on Healthy Relationships hosted by Jennifer Johnson.
Students may sign up in the HHS Counseling office.
What is Self-Care? Self-Care is exactly what is sounds like, taking the time to take care of yourself. Self-care can look different for each individual. It is important to focus on what brings you happiness and allows you to maintain social, emotional and mental health. By maintain self-care, one is able to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself. You are more likely to feel better about yourself, be more positive, able to handle stress and less likely to experience burn out.

What is Stress & Anxiety ?
Stress is our body's response to pressure from a situation or life event. When one is feeling stressed, you experience mental and physical symptoms such as anger, irritability and difficulty sleeping. Stress is due to an external cause where anxiety is due to an internal cause. Those who experience anxiety will have ongoing and persistent thoughts and worries that do not go away, even after the concern has stopped.

Growth mindset is the belief that intelligence and talents can be developed, regardless of the obstacles that stand in the way. As humans, we all make mistakes and at times fail. With a fixed mindset, one isn't open to constructive feedback, is not confident in themselves and gives up easily when they face failure. By adapting to a growth mindset perspective, one believes they have the ability to learn, grow, improve and become successful.
