In order for a student to be eligible to apply for a four year university; students must complete their A-G requirements as well as complete the SAT or ACT.
COVID-19 Update: At this time, due to COVID-19, local SAT and ACT test centers have been cancelled through October 2020. The CSUs, UCs and NCAA have all made public statements about waiving the testing requirements for the 2021-2022 school year. How this will impact further school years has not yet been determined. If you have already signed up for a test, you will be receiving a full refund from the Collegeboard/ACT.
Hilmar High School offers the PSAT to our students 9th -11th grade. Students are tested in Reading, Writing, Language, and Math, providing students an opportunity to prepare for the SAT. Juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT may also qualify for the National Merit Scholarship based on their score. The cost is $17 and fee waivers are available to students who qualify for free and reduced lunch.
By the spring of the student’s 11th grade year, they are encouraged to sign up for the SAT and/or ACT. Students may take this exam more than once, but must take the exam by December of their Senior year.
Hilmar High School offers the SAT School Day on campus for Junior and Senior students. The cost is $49.50 without essay and $64.50 with essay.
Students who are eligible for free and reduced lunch are eligible for a testing fee waiver for PSAT, SAT and ACT. The fee waiver is obtained from the student’s counselor.
