Entered the service January 8, 1940. He served in Africa and Italy. He was wounded during the invasion of Salerno, Italy. The later returned to his unit and received more wounds that resulted in his death at Cassino on February 11, 1944, one day after his 23rd birthday. Corporal Allen also received a Purple Heart.

Staff Sergeant Douglas was killed by a Grenade. The incident occurred in the Gia Dihn Province, South Vietnam. Sergeant Douglas was listed as an Armor Crewman throughout his active duty.

Senior Chief Conner was killed when his Special Electronic Tanker (EKA-3B) crashed offshore over South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. Senior Chief Conner received the National Defense Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal for his service.

1st Lieutenant “Dub” Galiga was Killed in Action when his North American P-51B-10 (SN: 43-7165) “Lady Lynn” was shot down by a Bf 109G-6 flown by Uffz Wiebenscher of ZG 26/2 over Parchim, Germany on July 18, 1944. He was credited with two confirmed kills. 1st Lt. Galiga received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Purple Heart, Victory Medal, and European Theater Medal.

Private Hammer was killed in action when his 3rd Battalion faced well dug in German soldiers. Quotes from the After Action Report stated: "German mortar and artillery fire, because of excellent observation, was deadly accurate." He was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, a Meritorious Unit Citation, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, and American, European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbons.

AMM2c Herrin was killed when his PBY-5A #2487 crash landed after flying extended routine patrol duty out of Kaneohe NAS. The weather conditions were poor with rainy and cloudy conditions making orientation very difficult for a weary crew. All hands on board perished.

Sgt. Smith, the flight engineer, was killed when the B-24 H model nicknamed "CORAL PRINCESS" he was flying in crash landed and exploded after completing its 20th mission. The crew had been on a bombing mission to Helmstadt, Germany. The crash killed all 10 crew members that were aboard.
