Corporal Allen entered the service January 8, 1940. He served in Africa and Italy. He was wounded during the invasion of Salerno, Italy. The later returned to his unit and received more wounds that resulted in his death at Cassino on February 11, 1944, one day after his 23rd birthday. Corporal Allen also received a Purple Heart.

He was credited with two confirmed kills. 1st Lt. Galiga received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Purple Heart, Victory Medal, and European Theater Medal.

Private Hammer was killed in action when his 3rd Battalion faced well dug in German soldiers. Quotes from the After Action Report stated: " German mortar and artillery fire, because of excellent observation, was deadly accurate." He was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, a Meritorious Unit Citation, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, and American, European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbons.
