What advice would I pass on to future interns? What are the most important skills for a student to be successful at his/her internship? How could another student develop these skills before beginning an internship?
Where you have your internship will be the most important decision you will make. I loved my internship and It solidified my future career goals. I do understand that it was important to have the experience, but since I already knew this was what I wanted to become part of me does wish I spent the month somewhere where I didn't have to sit in an office the majority of the time resulting in my back hurting a lot.
I'll never forget this experience as long as I live, it has been very impactful to my perception of life and adulthood. It was the first true experience of what life could be like after school as I enter the workforce. I'm so grateful of how kind everyone has been and i'm sad that it's coming to an end. However I feel like this did really make me appreciate my time as a kid way more. I'm going to really make the most of my 11 months left as a minor before I have to actually grow up. It was the first wake up call of adulthood.
Four times a year at HTHMA we will have a presentation of learning (POL) which is a showcase of the work we have completed as well as a summary of what we have learned. This is usually presented to one of your teachers and your parents on Zoom or in person. This POL is a special event since it only happens once throughout high school and is between your internship mentor, a 10th-grade teacher, and usually 4 students from 10th grade. This is done so the 11th grader can reflect on the month out loud as well as introduce the concept of what internship might look like to the 10th graders next year.
