During this internship, I will be working on several projects. So far I have been working on a site map on Revit for a project. I've also been working on adding new stuff to their website. I will utilize and develop my time management skills as well as my general knowledge of the software. This will benefit the firm since I will pretty much be acting as free labor saving everyone time and effort. Honestly, what surprised me most about my internship was how they all seemed like friends. I just hadn't been in an environment like this and I didn't know what to expect for how everyone would act toward each other.
So far the thing that has been the most difficult for me has been understanding all the little rules for architecture. I was already interested in architecture but never bothered to learn the specifics. One of the things I've already learned about is setback lines for example, this is the area on the property where a structure can usually be built up to. For most R1-zoned properties here in the United States this has to be at least several feet away from the property line. It's well known that R1 zoning is not very efficient and wastes a lot of space. The same sized plot of land in a suburb might only house several people while in a dense city center could house up to several hundred in some more extreme examples. Large parts of the country are allowing an increase of housing units on a property and are banning single-family R1 development. Currently while working on a property my objective has been to create concept plans for a second unit on the property which used to only allow one unit.
