For our math class our project was we got into our research group. The process for this project was we all had one role in the project, and I was the poster maker. This project is integrated with Humanities we choose a topic we were interested to research more. Our research was about immigrants and their rights. During this project we got asked what is trigonometry? Trigonometry is the relationship between angels and side length of tringles. For our project, we chose a more simpler design. Our box consists of 6 different rectangles, and they each have four 90° angles in the corners. In order to use right triangle trigonometry on our project, we chose to show how angles can be created and can exist anywhere. An angle is the space between any 2 lines, so we split our box up to find 2 mystery angles.
One of our first projects for chemistry was our resource profile. We got to choose our partner and we choose something that we use on a daily basis. We choose the telescopic mascara which is really common for people who do their makeup some of my classmates choose sunscreen, fabuloso, body wash, and many others. We then told our teacher what daily products we choose he then used an app to figure out if there were any dangerous molecules within our product. Our molecule that we got was Propylparaben. This helped us learn more about what can be in our daily products but to also learn how to do full atom lewis diagrams. We learned that this molecule is really dangerous for you.
The process for our ionic/covalent mini project was really fun we could draw anything we liked but we had to show one drawing of two thigs sharing something and another drawing showing not sharing with something else. Covalent is when two nonmetals come together. Covalent bonds share electrons. I drew two bees sharing a flower which represents covalent bonds. Ionic bonds happens when a nonmetal and a metal come together. Ionic bonds transfer electrons. For the ionic bond I drew a flower in the middle with one of the bees taking over the flower because it didn't want to share.
As our final project for chemistry we were given an experiment based on our career interests and were paired up with people who had similar interests. My partner and I were interested in the engineering field and we were given an experiment called "Purple Haze." During this experiment water was added to a mixture of aluminum powder and crushed iodine crystals which sets off a reaction causing a purple gas to be released. Along the experiments we were required to make a slide deck which shows each of our steps for the experiment and the experiment trials.
During this past semester in chemistry I have learned a lot. When I first got to that class I didn't know anything. I am really thankful for my teacher because he explains it in a way that is really easy for me to understand. I am glad I got to be in such amazing chemistry class because it opened a lot of doorways for me such as I am thinking about being a chemical engineer in the future.
In our final semester of humanities this year we were told to do a five page research paper with a topic of something we really wanted to learn more about. I think everyone should be treated the same way no matter what race you are. This led me to write about The experiences of immigrant children in detention centers. This was the first big research paper I had ever written using the M.L.A. format,it was a struggle for me at first. Especially since we could have different sources, each being cited a little differently. We also looked through peer reviewed sources which were a lot more informational than what I was used to reading from news. Even though this was a big challenge for me, it was completed, and presented at exhibition.
