Our chemical reaction was algae string. We learned through trial and error how to perfect our product. As well as studying the environmental aspects of algae in the real world and nature. We finished it off by performing our experiment live for people during the exhibition. We learned not only the chemistry behind our experiment/chemical reaction but also how to present and make the information understandable to the general public.
During world history, we learned about both world wars. What led up to them, how they started and ended, and the effects it had on different countries/people. We did lots of little projects like studying forms of propaganda and the effects of colonization during WW2. Our final project was picking a neighborhood in San Diego County and learning the history of that neighborhood. In the photo, you can read all about lemon grove. Including the history of businesses and commerce, population, and how Lemon Grove looks today.
During the 1st semester of math, we learned about math mindsets. Through Stanford studies, we learned about common misconceptions people have about math. Including but not limited to ideas that people are born math people, you cannot grow in math, and that certain demographics of people are better at math than others.
We then split up into groups and made an infographic that busted a math myth. Including a comic and an info doc. Our comic shows a person feeling discouraged about their math skills before they learn that even animals can do math. As well math is not just algebra and equations but so much more!
