Highland High School

Exchange Student Guidelines

Highland High School, in compliance with district policy, will recognize non-profit organizations that are designated as sponsoring exchange organizations by the U.S. Department of State (USDOS) as sponsors of exchange visitor students.

The sponsoring organization must submit a written request to the School Counseling Department by May 30 of the year preceding enrollment. The sponsor shall provide written assurance that the prospective exchange visitor student meets all criteria for eligibility for the program set forth in Federal law. The high school committee will review application requests. The committee reserves the right to accept between 0 and 5 students in any given year. Acceptance will be based on the suitability of the exchange student's background, needs, and experience, and that the exchange visitor student possesses sufficient proficiency in the English language to participate in the program. Other considerations will include:

  • There is a representative from the agency in either Medina or Summit county

  • School timelines were followed (requests made by May 30 of a given year)

*Please note that any student enrolled at Highland High School as an exchange student is here for a cultural exchange and will not be issued a Highland High school diploma.

All recommendations will go to the Board of Education at their annual June meeting after committee review. For these purposes, no prospective candidates will be considered after the May 30 deadline.
