About
Counseling Services
HMS offers a comprehensive school counseling program including group and individual counseling services along with prevention and intervention for academic, social and emotional needs.
Individual Counseling
Adolescence is a time of many social, emotional, and physical changes for middle school students. In school, short-term or crisis-based counseling can be used to help studetns and families meet personal and academic goals. Sessions are held in private and include approaches to build self-efficacy, increase emotional awareness, learn goal setting, and stablize in moments of crisis. HMS Counseling staff resepect student confidentiality. Sessions remain private unless students are at risk for self-harm or harm to others.
Parent Consultation
Often parents and caregivers are faced with unforeseen challenges and questions while their child is in middle school. Our office can support you and help you strategize to resolve issues occuring that affect your child's school success.
Referral to Outside Agencies
Highland Local Schools works closely with OhioGuidestones to provide services such as indivudula and group counseling to students at home and in-school. We are also aware of various programs for substance abuse, eating disorder, emergency safety, and other mental health treatments.
Second STEP Curriculum
The Second STEP middle school program is a universal program designed to promote skills and attitudes that increase students' social and school success and prevent violence, bullying and substance abuse. It provides a foundation for creating a safe, respectful learning environment.
