Welcome Back Everyone.
Wildlife - Red Squirrels
We have been enjoying our Woods and Wildlife topic. We have been learning all about red squirrels.
-Watched videos of squirrels collecting nuts and a powerpoint all about squirrels. We remembered so many facts from this and all added a fact to our floorbook.
-We collected sticks to create our own squirrel dreys,
-Pretended to be squirrels and had to run around the playground finding all the hidden nuts.
-Used red and brown leaves from the woods to stick on our own squirrel templates. They turned out very cute.
What animal are we going to learn about next?
Have a look at the pictures below to see all our Red squirrel fun.
10.9.25 What a fantastic day we have had! This morning P1-4 spent some time looking at some of outdoor artist Andy Goldsworthy's work before heading off to the Catholic Woods with Nursery, where we had to do some tree identification using descriptions to find them. We were experts at finding oak, rowan, hazel, silver birch, Scot's pine, holly and sycamore. After showing off our ID skills we then created our own outdoor art using things we collected in the woods.
This afternoon we continued with the outdoor theme with our maths using natural materials such as pine cones to make our own addition sums. We showed how good we are at adding up.
We have been working hard on our understanding of place value using lolly sticks and other resources. This is a fundamental part of maths. Once we get the hang of this we will find our other maths much easier.
3.9.25 Whilst the P6-7s were still away on their residential trip, the rest of the school had a lovely afternoon at the park. The weather was very kind to us and we made the most of what could be the last of the good weather. As a staff it was wonderful to watch our children embracing our school values (Community, Respect, Inclusion, Sustainability, Perseverance or CRISP for short) and building their social skills as they played, took turns, made up games, included others, showed kindness, and tried new things. It really is a privelege to be the teacher of such an amazing bunch.
Woods And Wildlife
To start our new "Woods and Wildlife" topic, we took a walk down to the woods with our ipads and chromebooks to take pictures of our local woods. We are so lucky to have them right on our doorstep and will be using them so much during our topic.
Our First Few Days In P1
Our new P1 pupils have been doing a wonderful job at settling into class and have spent their first few days learning class routines, getting to know their classmates, working on numbers to 10, lots of rhyming games and fine motor activities.
P1-4 term 4 2024/25 round up - Miss Brown
What an exciting (and exhausting) final term. We have done so many fabulous things.
As part of our ‘People who Help Us’ topic we had crew members from the Scottish Ambulance Service come and visit us. The children enjoyed becoming patients for the crew, who showed us how they protect broken bones before going to hospital. We all got to see what a fantastic job they do for us.
The P4s joined the P5-7 class to take part in a football training session with a Ross County coach, hosted by Teanassie Primary School. We had a great time learning new skills, making new friends and had a few friendly matches both against Teanassie and mixed school matches. Thank you to Teanassie for making us feel very welcome in their school and to Ross County. A special mention also to our very own super referee Mrs Butler who helped referee the matches.
What a difference a year makes. The difference between the beginning of the school year and ,in our ‘Big Writing’ lessons, has been incredible. The children have worked incredibly hard over the year. They have really impressed with their ‘growth mindset’ approach, always striving to do better each time.
In maths and numeracy we have been working on fractions and, once again, the children have really impressed with their understanding. We have also been looking at directions, angles and symmetry and the children have enjoyed blindfold playground games, listening games and art to explore this area.
I have to mention the Baillie Cup again. We entered as a joint team with Balnain. It was a fantastic event. The children got a chance to make new friends with the Balnain children and worked well as a team. The children represented their schools well, both in behaviour and sportsmanship, as well as an amazing medal and trophy haul. Well done to team Cannich- Balnain!
Our school trip to Landmark was a great success. The children really enjoyed the day and showed great bravery and courage on some of the attractions. Once again they represented their school excellently with their behaviour.
Finally we had our end of year assembly. I felt incredibly proud and privileged to be a teacher for such a fabulous bunch of young people. I will miss them in the holidays and look forward to seeing them all again next school year.
People Who Help Us - Firefighters.
As part of our People Who Help Us topic, we have been learning about firefighters and what they do to keep us safe. We spoke about how important it is for them to be fit, healthy and strong. We discussed how much training they must do to keep fit. We had a go at our own firefighter training activity, this included crawling through small spaces, climbing ladders, jumping, aiming and carrying heavy bags.
Baillie Cup 2025
On Thursday the 5th of June P1-4 took part in the Baille Cup Inter school sports with Balnain Primary School.
Between them scooping a whopping 12 medals and x2 trophies. Amazing.
WELL DONE
We have been practising budgeting our money and calculating change from different amounts by doing lots of active activities in class. We took a visit to Mrs Smarts' shop with some pocket money and used the Tesco website to plan a party for the class where we had £10 to spend each.
This term we will be working on division.
We took advantage of the warm weather today to introduce the some of the concepts of division be diving ourselves into equal groups.
We have been working hard all term on our production, practising lines, songs, remembering cues and stage positioning. I'm sure you'll agree that it was a fantastic production with lots of great singing, humour and, most of all, enthusiasm. It was well worth the effort. Many thanks to parent council who collected an impressive sum from donations too. Disclaimer - This production in no way represented the teachers or pupils of Cannich Bridge! 😜
We have been enjoying Kodaly with Mr Thompson this term. We have been playing loads of fun games which are building our understanding of beat and rhythm week by week and getting more complex each time. This has given us a deeper understanding of how the fundamentals of music works.
We have been continuing our learning about measure, using all sorts to measure, finishing with capacity and having lots of fun measuring water. We have learned how to estimate, measure with standard and non standard units, talk about the pros and cons of different ways of measuring, learned which units to use for different purposes and thought about real world reasons for being able to measure.
P1-4 visited Urquhart Castle. We were expertly shown around by two fantastic guides. We saw lots of artefacts, learned about castle life, got to explore the castle and the surrounding area and ask a gazillion questions! We had a fantastic time and people came up to us and told us how fantastically well behaved everyone was. Well done for representing your school. I was felt very proud to be your teacher!
Design and Create A Castle - Home Task.
Look at our fantastic castles we created at home. Every single one is so different and the children really enjoyed how they made them to the big class and nursery. Well Done Everyone :)
Creating Our Own Trebuchet 17.3.25
On our school trip to Urquhart Castle we had been learning about Trebuchet/Catapults and how they used them to attack castles. We created our own using lollypop sticks, tape, straws and a cup. We went outside to see how far we could launch various items. They worked really well and everyone worked well in their groups.
We got to make delicious pancakes on pancake day. We had to weigh and measure the different ingredients, crack the eggs, mix and pour the mixture into the pan. We also got a shot of flipping the pancakes.
Afterwards we got to eat the pancakes. They were so tasty.
Design and Build A Castle
Home Task.
P1-4 have been learning about castles in class this term. We would like you to design and create your own castle at home. Attached is a planning sheet for you to use before starting to build your castle. You can use different resources from around your house and can ask for help from an adult or work independently. Try to be as creative as possible and include lots of different features of a real castle. You could have moveable parts, a real moat or a knight who guards your castle.
The week beginning 24.3.25, we would like you to bring in your finished castle. Please do not bring it in before then as we do not have the space to store them. At the end of that week (Friday 28.3.25) we will invite the nursery and P5-7 to come and see all our finished castles and have a chance to share our castle and the features of it.
We hope you have lots of fun with this task and can’t wait to see the finished castles.
We started our Gymnastics block in P.E. We focused on balances and partner work this week. Some of the balances were really tricky but everyone tried really hard.
We have been learning about Chinese New Year traditions in P1-4 and about the year of the snake. We created wonderful Chinese lantern artwork. P3+4 also researched what their name is in Chinese and what was the chinese animal the year they were born.
Thank you to P5-7 for hosting a fantastic Burns Day Ceilidh. We got to eat delicious scottish food like oatcakes, haggis and cranachan then had some games and finished with some scottish country dancing. We had the best time.
13.1.25 - Online French Lessons
For the next 6 weeks, the P1-4 class are joining in with online French lessons along with lots of other schools in Scotland. We will be focusing on numbers, greetings and feelings. We were excited to put our camera on and see the other classes taking part and give them a wave. We loved playing the fun french games.
6.1.25 - We had a busy first day back at school focusing on Literacy. P1 were working on word building and sounding out CVC words in Bingo games. P2-4 were working on improving their sentences and how to make sentences more interesting. We also did lots of fun spelling games.
Our Role Play area has been transformed into Santa's Grotto for December. Children have been enjoying wrapping presents, writing cards and posting them in the post box and delivering them. It has been excellent for our fine motor skills, our writing and reading skills and working co-operatively and sharing resources.
The P1-4 and nursery class did such a fantastic performance of The Hoity Toity Angel. They have been working hard for weeks, learning their lines, positions and songs. We are all really proud of you 😀
P1 are close to knowing all their initial sounds.
We have been working on building CVC words.
We have been using a variety of materials, including magnets and phonics cubes.
They have been working really well at sounding out each word.
This term in P.E we have been doing lots of different types of dance. We have created a Christmas Dance that we will be performing at the community christmas party. This week, to celebrate St Andrews Day coming up, we have been learning different scottish ceildh dances. The children were so brilliant at counting the beats and keeping in time to the music. It was hard work but lots of fun.
P1-4 have been working hard doing lots of different addition activities.
P1 have been using different materials to help with addition to 10.
P2 have been practising their addition facts to 20 using numicon.
P3 and P4 have been practising doing 2 digit and 3 digit additions using different ways to solve them.
Have a look at our photos to see how busy we have been. 🏆

Well done to our Star Writer for a fabulous, ‘letter to a friend’ that she completed in personal writing last week.
We have also been learning about Remembrance Day and creating our own poppies to decorate our classroom.
Helping make improvments to our Playground.
