Grading Policy for 5th Grade
Per the district handbook, all subjects will receive a minimum of 3 test grades and 15 daily grades per nine weeks and will be assigned a numerical average. In computing the 9 weeks grade, the daily work average will count 60% and the test average count 40% in determining the overall grade.
Grades
Daily grades may consist of in class assignments, quizzes, and homework.
Test grades will consist of unit assessments, cumulative assessments and special projects.
The District shall permit a student who meets the criteria detailed in the grading guidelines a reasonable opportunity to redo an assignment or retake a test for which the student received a failing grade. A student will not be allowed to retake a test or re-do an assessment if one of the following situations occurs:
If the student refuses to attempt the assignment/test then he/she will not be given the opportunity to retake a test or redo an assignment.
If the student cheats on an assignment or test then he/she may not retake the test or re-do the assignment.
At least two opportunities (which includes the first time) have been given to the student to complete the assignment and he/she has not turned it in.
Reporting
Achievement will be reported at the end of 3 weeks and 6 weeks of a grading period with a written progress report and at the end of the 9 weeks in a report card.
Conduct will be reported as E (Excellent: 90+), S (Satisfactory: 80-89), N (Needs improvement: 70-79), or U (Unsatisfactory <70).
Makeup Work
Students may make up all work missed due to excused absences for full credit, provided it is completed promptly. For tests and quizzes, students must arrange to complete them on campus outside of instructional time upon their return.
A student having 1 excused absence has 1 day to make up work. 2 excused absences have 2 days. In case of more than 3 consecutive absences, the length of time to make up work will be determined by the teacher.
However, if an assignment is given on Monday and due on Friday and the student is absent on Tuesday, he/she should make every effort to still have the assignment completed by Friday.
