Behavior Policy for 5th Grade
Behavior Policy for 5th Grade
We are excited to continue implementing a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) System for the 2025–2026 school year. This system is designed to encourage positive behavior, accountability, and responsibility while giving students the opportunity to earn participation in special events.
The PBIS system is based on what is used at the secondary school, and we are implementing it in 5th grade to help prepare students for the expectations they will encounter in junior high next year. Our goal is to provide a structured system that promotes responsibility and helps students develop the skills they need to be successful as they transition to the next level of their education.
How the System Works
Each student will begin the 9-week grading period with 100 points. Points will be deducted for behavior infractions, and students will also have opportunities to earn points back.
At the end of the 9 weeks, students will receive both:
1. A conduct grade on their report card.
2. Eligibility to participate in the 9-week reward activity based on their conduct grade.
Conduct Grade Scale
Grade Points
E – Excellent 90 and above
S – Satisfactory 80–89
N – Needs Improvement 70–79
U – Unsatisfactory Below 70
To participate in any off-campus events or activities, students must maintain at least an S in conduct.
Point Deductions
Points may be deducted for the following reasons:
Behavior Points Deducted
Not Prepared for Class X points
Unexcused Absence X points
Office Referral X points
Lunch Detention X points
Teacher Discretion* X points
Teacher discretion deductions may result in a folder signing but not always, depending on the severity of the behavior.
Teacher Discretion Examples
Distracting class
Lunchroom/Hallway Behavior
Missing Work
Failure to Complete Homework
Yellow Sheet System
We will continue the same behavior sheet system from 4th grade:
If a student receives a folder signing, it will be documented on the yellow sheet.
Parents must initial the yellow sheet and students must return it the following day.
If the yellow sheet is not returned initialed, the student will serve lunch detention for each day it remains unreturned.
Earning Points Back
Students will also have opportunities to earn points back by going above and beyond what is already expected. Positive actions such as:
Outstanding leadership
Acts of kindness
Helping others
Taking initiative
We believe this system will encourage students to make responsible choices, stay engaged in learning, and follow school expectations. Thank you for your support in reinforcing these expectations at home so that your child can enjoy the rewards of positive behavior.
