Overview
There are many challenging educational and training opportunities within the high-skilled world of Business Management and Administration. Learners need a solid background in math, science and technical skills. Education and training can be obtained in high schools, technical colleges/institutes, and universities.
Along the way, career guidance professionals assist learners in assessing their educational goals, interests, abilities and skills to facilitate a good match to the cluster's many pathway options. Learners participate in relevant educational opportunities framed in the context of the cluster. They gain knowledge and skills through coordinated workplace learning experiences such as site visits, job shadowing and internships. If they choose, they may achieve valuable skill certifications that lead to employment. Colleges and universities offer advanced degrees and industry certifications that prepare learners for professional and technical careers.
The Business Management and Administration Cluster prepares learners for careers in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating business functions essential to efficient and productive business operations. Career opportunities are available in every sector of the economy and require specific skills in organization, time management, customer service and communication.
Employment Outlook
Nearly half of all jobs are in managerial and professional occupations, and nearly one-fourth of all workers are self-employed. The business management and administration services industry is one of the highest paying industries. Most job openings in the business management and administration cluster are projected to be in occupations assigned to the administrative support pathwayÑincluding customer service representatives, the occupation expected to have the largest number of job openings in the cluster.

CTE Programs located at Hicksville High School:
Business Management and Entrepreneurship
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Endorsement is an enhancement on a student’s high school diploma in the form of a New York State Education Department Seal indicating that a student has completed coursework in a state approved CTE program, along with the requirements for a technical endorsement. The Hicksville School District offers students a choice of two CTE Pathways in which students can obtain this diploma distinction. The requirements for any CTE pathway are as follows:
■ Teacher completed employability profile
■ Electronic portfolio of student work
■ Passing of a nationally recognized exam

Comet News: Our club reports on school, community, and real world events and issues. Its goal is to give a voice to the students.
Comet Shop: School store
Esports: To promote positive interactions between students that play video games, explore career and collegiate opportunities surrounding e sports, and begin the process of creating a Hicksville E Sports team that can compete for local and regional competitions and scholarships.
FBLA: stands for Future Business Leaders of America. It is the largest career student business organization. It helps high school students prepare for careers in business and other fields through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs. It teaches career and life skills, creates memorable bonding experiences, is a resume builder that looks great on college applications, and offers many other opportunities to expand real-world skills.
National Honor Society: NHS does community service while maintaining grades above a 93 GPA, creating leadership within the school and community. We do collections for local organizations, each of the students do their own volunteer projects, we help PTA groups with needs throughout the year, create projects within the school to benefit students, etc.
Yearbook Club: The Yearbook Staff is responsible for the design and layout of the High School Yearbook. As well as managing finances and distribution of the High School Yearbook.

Career pathways provide a context for exploring career options at all levels of education. Career pathways link student learning to the knowledge and skills needed for future education and employment.

Employees in the Administrative Support pathway use technology to perform and coordinate the administrative activities of an office and to ensure that information is collected and disseminated to staff and clients.
