Overview
There are many challenging educational and training opportunities within the high-skilled world of Human Services. Learners need a solid background in communication, science and technical skills. Education and training can be obtained in high schools, technical colleges/institutes and universities.
Along the way, career guidance professionals assist learners in assessing their educational goals, interests, abilities and skills to facilitate a good match to the cluster's many pathway options. Learners participate in relevant educational opportunities framed in the context of the cluster. They gain knowledge and skills through coordinated workplace learning experiences such as site visits, job shadowing and internships. If they choose, they may achieve valuable skill certifications that lead to employment. Colleges and universities offer advanced degrees and industry certifications that prepare learners for professional and technical careers.
This diverse Career Cluster prepares individuals for employment in career pathways related to families and human needs.
Employment Outlook
Based on the latest statistics, approximately 5 million people are employed in human services occupations. Faster than average employment growth through the year 2024, coupled with high turnover, should create numerous employment opportunities. Median annual wages for these occupations vary. For example, the median annual wage for shampooers is $18,510, and the wage for industrial-organizational psychologists is $80,330.

Yearbook Club: Are you interested in creating a book of memories that can last a life time for you and your peers? Do you have an interest in photography, design, layout, or editing? Do you know anything about publishing? Would you like to learn? This is a fun and exciting opportunity to learn an important craft, develop valuable skills and produce an outstanding yearbook for your school.
American Sign Language Club: What we do? We learn new signs! We play fun games! We learn a song for graduation! We also learn how to sign the pledge! And of course, WE HAVE FUN!
Multicultural Club: The Multicultural Club welcomes all students in the middle school. It is a place where students and teachers can come together in order to celebrate their diverse backgrounds. Students will be able to share their cultures and traditions and continue to build connections with peers and adults. The Multicultural Club develops unity through celebrating diversity.
Social Awareness Club: Our club goals: Be an inclusive club where everyone can be themselves, discuss various LGBTQ+ issues, raise awareness for various under represented groups found in our school, and provide a safe space to talk and share ideas.

Frontline Christian Club:
The Frontline Club is founded on the basis of the following goals:
Invite all students to participate in meetings and activities.
Pray for each other, our school, and our community.
Worship through artistic expression.
Fellowship to build strong relationships with fellow students and Christ

Reach out to the community through fundraising, charities, and service projects.
Helping Hands: The purpose of the Helping Hands organization is to provide an opportunity for members (1) to become involved in activities which will facilitate the development of a campus climate supportive of academic, social, and personal success; (2) to learn leadership skills; (3) to broaden individual experiential background; and (4) to extend goals and "helping hand" philosophy of Hicksville High School
International Outreach: The goal is to embrace and celebrate diversity and bring everywhere together for International night.
Key Club: Key Club is an international, student led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. We help run the Thanksgiving food drive with Kiwanis.
Model United Nations: Students simulate ambassadors to the United Nations, debating world issues. Students learn world politics and debating skills. We compete in two conferences a year.
National Honor Society: NHS does community service while maintaining grades above a 93 GPA, creating leadership within the school and community. We do collections for local organizations, each of the students do their own volunteer projects, we help PTA groups with needs throughout the year, create projects within the school to benefit students, etc.

Career Pathways are a multi-year program of academic and technical study that prepares students for a full range of postsecondary options within each career cluster. Career pathways provide a context for exploring career options at all levels of education. Career pathways link student learning to the knowledge and skills needed for future education and employment.
Pathway 1: Consumer Services
People with careers in consumer services assist individuals with decisions and problems relating to finance, real estate, insurance and consumer goods.

People working in counseling and mental health services assist people with personal, family, educational, mental health, and career decisions and problems. Mental health care may be provided in hospitals, clinics, schools or private settings

People with careers in early childhood development and services nurture and teach children. They provide services in childcare centers, nursery schools, preschools, public schools, private households, family childcare homes, and before and after school programs.

Pathway 4: Family and Community Services
Employees with careers in family and community services help the homeless, housebound, and infirm cope with circumstances of daily living; counsel troubled and emotionally disturbed individuals; train or retrain the unemployed or underemployed; care for the elderly and the physically and mentally disabled; help the disadvantaged obtain financial assistance; and solicit contributions for various social services organizations.

Pathway 5: Personal Care Services
People with careers in personal care services assist individuals with their personal appearance, including shampooing, cutting, coloring and styling hair; giving manicures, pedicures, and scalp and facial treatments; providing makeup analysis; cleaning and styling wigs and hairpieces; and providing personal fitness training. Also, within personal care services, funeral directors and attendants make funeral arrangements for grieving families.
