Overview
There are many challenging educational and training opportunities within the high-skilled world of Education and Training. Learners need a solid background in academic, technical and presentation/ facilitation skills. The educational background for a career in the education and training field can begin in high schools, technical colleges/institutes, and universities.
Along the way, career guidance professionals assist learners in assessing their educational goals, interests, abilities and skills to facilitate a good match to the cluster's many pathway options. Learners participate in relevant educational opportunities framed in the context of the cluster. They gain knowledge and skills through coordinated workplace learning experiences such as site visits, job shadowing and internships. If they choose, they may achieve valuable skill certifications that lead to employment. Colleges and universities offer advanced degrees that prepare learners for professional and technical careers.
This diverse Career Cluster prepares learners for careers in planning, managing and providing education and training services, and related learning support services. Each year many learners train for careers in education and training in a variety of settings that offer academic instruction, career technical instruction, and other education and training services.
Employment Outlook
A growing emphasis on improving education and making it available to more Americans will increase the overall demand for workers in the education and training cluster. Employers are expected to devote greater resources to job-specific training programs in response to the increasing complexity of many jobs and technological advances that can leave employees with obsolete skills. A substantial number of older teachers are expected to reach retirement age through 2024. Their retirement will increase the need to replace workers who leave the occupation. This will result in a particularly strong demand for training and development specialists across all industries.

Strategic Gaming Club: The Strategic Gaming Club is open to all students at Hicksville Middle School who are interested in playing a variety of strategy based board and card games. These games are a great way to socially interact and develop critical thinking skills. Meetings will take place on every other Tuesday starting in October. Sample games include: Settlers of Catan, Smash Up, and One Night. These games will be played in small groups after school. Students may bring their own games; with group members approval. Dr. Gibson is the advisor of the club.
National Junior Honor Society: The NJHS is by invitation for those students who have exhibited outstanding academic performance. To qualify, students must have a 93% cumulative average in the core subjects of English, Science, Math, Social Studies and Modern Language. Qualifying students are nominated for acceptance based upon evidence of school citizenship, service, leadership, and character. Students in grades 7 and 8 are eligible for participation in this club. Plan now to meet the qualifications for eligibility!
Drama Club: The Drama Club is open to all students in grade 6, 7, 8. Do you like to sing, dance or act? Do you think maybe you would like to give it a try? You never know what hidden talents you may possess. Maybe you are not interested in being center stage but enjoy the excitement of being part of the production. Why not become a stage hand? Lean the trades that make the actors look good and the production a success. There is a role for everyone – all talents and abilities are required and appreciated to make a great play! Come celebrate with us as we create entertainment for the Middle School community.
American Sign Language Club: What we do? We learn new signs! We play fun games! We learn a song for graduation! We also learn how to sign the pledge! And of course, WE HAVE FUN!
Board Game Club: This club is perfect for new students coming to the middle school who want and like to have fun playing board games! If you liked this club in 6th grade or missed the opportunity to join, consider joining now! It is your last year here so why don’t you come and play some games with us! Join this club and have fun!

Next Generation Christian Club: Christian club gives students a chance to celebrate Christianity at an after school club environment.

Comet Connection: Our club is focused on increasing the school community's awareness about mental health issues, available school & community resources to help those struggling with mental health concerns and forming new friendships amongst our students. The club will also educate students about Mindfulness and other coping skills. Socialization skills will hopefully improve among all members through icebreaker activities and playing board games, etc.
Helping Hands: The purpose of the Helping Hands organization is to provide an opportunity for members (1) to become involved in activities which will facilitate the development of a campus climate supportive of academic, social, and personal success; (2) to learn leadership skills; (3) to broaden individual experiential background; and (4) to extend goals and "helping hand" philosophy of Hicksville High School.
Key Club: Key Club is an international, student led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. We help run the Thanksgiving food drive with Kiwanis.
National Honor Society: NHS does community service while maintaining grades above a 93 GPA, creating leadership within the school and community. We do collections for local organizations, each of the students do their own volunteer projects, we help PTA groups with needs throughout the year, create projects within the school to benefit students, etc.

Career Pathways are a multi-year program of academic and technical study that prepares students for a full range of postsecondary options within each career cluster. Career pathways provide a context for exploring career options at all levels of education. Career pathways link student learning to the knowledge and skills needed for future education and employment.
Pathway 1: Administration and Administrative Support
Smooth operation of any education or training institution requires competent administration. Administrators provide direction, leadership and day-to-day management of educational activities in schools, preschools, day care centers, colleges, universities, businesses and industries, correctional institutions, museums, and job training and community service organizations.

The Professional Support Services pathway represents a variety of highly specialized occupations that are critical to education and training systems. Counselors, psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists and audiologists assist people with personal and family needs, mental health assistance, educational goals and career decision making.

Pathway 3: Teaching and Training
In addition to being knowledgeable in their subject, teachers and trainers must have the ability to communicate, inspire trust and confidence, and motivate learners, as well as understand their educational and emotional needs. Teachers must be able to recognize and respond to individual differences in diverse learners, and employ different teaching/ training methods that will result in higher learner achievement.
