This course will continue science study through exploring practical application of knowledge. It will continue to build upon GCSE concepts and will also introduce new theories, ideas and techniques which are fundamental to understanding the world around us. You will also develop the transferable and higher order skills which are valued by higher education providers and employers. It is equivalent to one A Level.
You will study five units, including 3 practical units, covering all three sciences as well as maths skills throughout.
Fundamentals of Science
In this unit you will learn about the key topics that are important in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Science in Society
You will learn about the skills scientists use and the roles they perform in an international scientific community. You will examine different types of scientific data and learn how scientists use them to draw conclusions that can contribute to scientific advancement.
Investigating Science
In this practical unit you will learn about the role of a research scientist in industry and how to conduct your own scientific investigation. You will develop the skills to research, plan and risk assess your investigation before undertaking the practical tasks.
Analytical Techniques in Chemistry
In this practical unit you will learn how to plan and perform practical investigations to separate substances and purify them.
Forensic Biology
In this practical unit you will learn how to perform investigations of the macro and ultrastructure of cells and tissues from fresh and prepared materials, using optical microscope techniques and electron micrographs.
The course will be examined through a mixture of external examinations and centre-assessed assignments, including classroom based lab work and independent work for each practical unit.

5 or above in GCSE Mathematics
5 or above in GCSE Separate Sciences or 5-5 or above in GCSE Combined Science
