Torvet is the main city square of Trondheim and the natural heart of the city.
It’s a central meeting place for locals and visitors alike, surrounded by shops, cafés, and historic streets.
In the middle of the square stands the tall statue of the Viking king Olav Tryggvason, who founded Trondheim in the year 997. The monument also functions as a sundial and is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.
It is a 5 minutes walk to the Cathedral
from the city square.
The Cathedral is the most important medieval church in Norway and the northernmost Gothic cathedral in the world.
It was built over the grave of Olav II of Norway (Saint Olav), the Viking king who died in 1030 and later became Norway’s patron saint. After his death, Trondheim (then called Nidaros) became a major pilgrimage destination in Northern Europe.
The Archbishop’s Palace was the political and religious power center of medieval Norway. Together with the cathedral, this was the most important place in the country.
We will walk to the Old Town Bridge, a popular spot in the idyllic town of Trondheim in Norway.
Then down to "Solsiden" (The Sunny side) crossing the "Blomsterbrua" (Flower brigde) to the Trondheim Maritime Museum.
