Welcome

Welcome to Ranchero Middle School's Physical Education website! We are excited to work with your student this year. Our Physical Education Program focuses and concentrates on enhancing/ mastering the previously introduced skills and learning how to apply physical fitness to everyday life. While every student will not “master” every skill, the developmentally appropriate mastery of the skill will be encouraged. The students will continue to enhance knowledge and understanding of the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective concepts of Physical Education. Your student will engage in developmentally appropriate activities such as safety guidelines, following directions and protocols, conditioning, rhythm, recreational/lifetime activities, physical fitness/wellness, team/dual/individual sports, and track and field. They will also be exposed to academic (indoor) instruction in basic biomechanics, human anatomy and physiology, nutrition. Every Physical Education class will begin with basic warm-up and stretching activities. The students will recall the previously learned skills and “why” they are learning these skills. They will expand this knowledge with correct usage of the emphasized concept. The planned activity for the day is then introduced and executed, paying particular attention to how a skill is executed. Physical assessment is based upon correct execution of a skill, rather than the athletic results. Rules of team/dual/individual sports and games and academic knowledge are also assessed. In addition, there is great emphasis on the basic components of physical fitness. Students will participate in a variety of fitness activities throughout the year that will allow them to improve their flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition and much more. Throughout the year, the students will be challenged by activities such as the California, state required, FitnessGram Physical Fitness Test and Single Assessments.
