Ninth grade English is a literature based course connecting reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The goal of the course is to help students achieve higher level thinking through their responses to and analysis of literature. In addition, the ninth grade program sets standards commensurate with both the Next Generation Standards and the standards set by the department to prepare students for college level work. Students are taught to write in a variety of genres and to address such issues in their writing as meaning, development, voice, audience, and mechanics.
