The Science of Reading teaches the fundamentals of reading instruction. Participants will learn the basics of how students learn to read through the modules in this course. This course will be completely asynchronous. This session will be 12 CTLE hours for pedagogy and English Language Learners.

Do you struggle with teaching writing? Teaching writing is a craft of it’s own. In this session participants will learn strategies for teaching writing to students, including the writing process, different types of writing and methods of addressing students needs when it comes to writing. Participants will also learn how the rubrics and conferencing with students can benefit the writing process.

Participants will learn the structure of the new US History Regents Exam. Participants will be walked through some teaching strategies they can implement into their exam preparation. Participants will also practice scoring the exams by becoming familiar with the rubric and exemplar papers.

Three-Dimensional Learning shifts the focus of the science classroom to an environment where students use disciplinary core ideas, crosscutting concepts, and scientific practice to explore, examine, and explain how and why phenomena occur and to design solutions to problems. In short, it is a model for pushing student involvement and critical thinking. Participants will learn strategies for using this structure in their Science Classroom.

Are you ready to implement the new Computer Science & Digital Fluency Standards into your lessons? All teachers play a role in rolling out these standards. This session will introduce you to the NEW standards, develop ideas for implementing the NEW standards and provide methods of teaching to the NEW standards. In December 2020 the NYS Board of Regents adopted the K-12 NYS Computer Science and Digital Fluency standards. Beginning September 2023 all credit-bearing Computer Science courses will need to be implementing the NYS CS&DF standards. By September 2024 the NYS CS&DF standards will need to be implemented fully in all grade bands K-12. This session will help Elementary/Secondary teachers and administrators build capacity for implementing the standards into their classrooms. Participants will also be given strategies and resources for teaching the NYS CS&DF standards.
