Basic Agriscience Course Overview:
The Basic Agriscience course introduces students to the essential principles of agriculture while helping them develop valuable life and career skills. A key component of the course is participation in FFA, where students engage in leadership-building activities and explore opportunities in the agricultural industry. All students are required to complete a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project, allowing them to apply what they learn in class through hands-on, real-world experiences. The course also emphasizes employability skills, preparing students for success in future jobs. Students study Georgia’s top ten commodities, such as poultry, cotton, and peanuts, and examine how agriculture supports both the state and national economies. Additionally, the course highlights how agriculture plays a vital role in our everyday lives, from the food we eat to the materials we use. Along the way, students are introduced to veterinary science, offering insight into animal care and potential careers in the animal industry.
