Art 1 - College Prep:
Art 1 introduces students to the foundations of visual art through exploration, observation, and creative problem-solving. Students investigate how artists communicate ideas using the elements and principles of design while learning essential skills in drawing, painting, mixed media, and visual journaling. The course emphasizes artistic thinking, craftsmanship, safe studio practices, and an understanding of art within historical and cultural contexts. Students develop confidence, imagination, and self-expression while maintaining a portfolio of original work and participating in critiques and exhibitions that prepare them for advanced levels of study.
