Quintasha Baker graduated from Henrico High School in 2001. During her time as Warrior, she focused on getting good grades and making her parents proud. Ms. Baker desired to be a flag girl but says “I was too shy to do that” (Baker). Quintasha says she enjoyed her time as Warrior and liked school very much. She says Henrico looks much different than when she was here. She even said they had a smoking section by the bus ramp! Unlike our classes in which we use technology, Ms. Baker remembers, “you had to have a book for every class” (Baker). We asked, “What does it take to be a Warrior?” Quintasha answered it takes “pride and confidence to be a Warrior at Henrico.”
After high school Quintasha Baker experienced some hardships in life and overcome them. Quintasha went to South University and will soon be working at VCU. Ms. Baker has studied to be an Occupational Therapist for athletes. She will be taking a test this March to officially become an OT. Ashley Bennett graduated from Henrico High school in 2004. From her 4 years in high school,Ashley became a flag girl and joined FCCLA doing many extracurricular activities. She “loved” getting ready for college, performing with the marching band, and participating in basketball games. The stage was her home and the audience gave her enough energy to keep going. Having a positive attitude, willing to do your work, and coming to class is what she thinks takes to be a warrior. Her teachers encouraged her, especially Mr.Johnson, she mentioned him as one of the teachers that helped her through as a warrior and lifted her spirit up.
After graduating,Ashley Bennet became a mortgage foreclosure professionalist. When we asked “did you like being a warrior?” Her eyes lit up as if she was a kid in a candy shop, replying, she answered “yes,I loved the atmosphere, friends, teachers, having a good time, and learning.” Ashley wishes she could go back to that time in high school where anything could be possible and your dreams are reachable. The reassurance and advice Mr.Johnson gave her helped her pave her way to success now.
Listen to Marsilina's interview here!
2009
Throughout Marsilina’s time as a Warrior, she participated the Center for the Arts, which is also known as CFA, she specifically participated in the dance part of CFA and she loved it! Dance was her favorite high school memory. She also participated in a pageant and won as “Miss Senior” for her grad year, so as you can see she had a pretty eventful high school experience and her advice to rising warriors and freshmen that want to have the same experience is “To be a warrior your frame of mind and education are important, your grades have to be on point to be able to do what it is that you want to do in high school and to get to your destination afterwards”. Her motivation to being a strong warrior was just life in general, to reach her goals and to live her best life. A warrior who Marsilina looked up to when she as in school was principle Parker. “He was always doing his job, he was positive, he spoke to everyone, and overall a really good and productive ideal warrior”.
After she graduated high school, which will be 10 years ago this June, she attended college at the Virginia State University. Although she really enjoyed being a college student at that university she joined the military for 8 years, she enjoyed being a part of the military as well. She currently works for AllState Insurance Company. Her goal is to continue to be a strong warrior and do the best she can and her current motivation is her son.
2016
Colin Solomon graduated from Henrico High School in the year of 2016, which was three years ago. During his time as a warrior he performed in many activities such as the fashion show of the year. He was also crowned homecoming king. Colin was a social butterfly, sometimes he let that get in between his school work. Colin believes he had a little too much fun, as being a warrior. However, he enjoyed himself in the annual fashion show. If Collin could come back to Henrico, He would focus on his work and socializing as much. It takes somebody to be strong, confident and on top of their game to be considered a warrior.
After, Colin graduated High School he enrolled into Old Dominion University. Which is still present today in Norfolk, Va. Colin advice to future and current warriors is “don’t get comfortable in your current state of mind, always look for better ways to approve yourself, also don’t get comfortable in not doing your work”.
Kinda and Collin has a lovely mother and son bond, from the beginning to the end. I love the fact that they both are Henrico High School alumnus. They are so wonderful together as a whole. While interviewing one thing I notice about the lovely relationship they were coming up with the same responses. Their answers were the same, and also they talk alike in my opinion. I honestly had an amazing time with them, just feeling the connection they have is amazing. What they share is something beautiful, most families today are separated and with no type of partnership. However, it was different for this family, you can feel the love being around them. Something I enjoyed the most!
