National Board Certified Teacher
Henrico County Schools recently celebrated the largest new class of National Board Certified Teachers in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Currently just under 5% of our teachers in HCPS have received Board Certification- the profession’s highest honor.

National Board Certification is one of the most rigorous and respected recognitions in PK-12 education. In Henrico, successful achievement of Board Certification also results in:
A permanent pay increase on the HCPS Career Ladder (a 4.8% raise)
Annual grant stipends from the VDOE ($5,000 for your first year, $2,500 each year after)
180 recertification points
Teacher-leadership opportunities at the division and state level
Henrico Schools has an exceptional record in supporting teachers in the NBCT process, and has graduated the largest class of new NBCTs in Virginia for each of the past five years. Our candidate support program includes:
Full reimbursement of submissions
Monthly coaching meetings
1:1 peer coaching and feedback sessions
School related leave days to provide work time for candidates
HCPS leads central Virginia in teachers certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Completion of the rigorous process is the profession’s highest mark of accomplishment!
