As a school subject, technology develops the technological literacy and capabilities of all students grades K-12. Its curriculum focuses on the development and applications of technology and the effects technology has on people, society, education, and the environment. Technology Education is applying Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), History and English in our courses of instruction. This is done by solving practical problems, exploring careers, and increasing ones potential.

Technology courses offer the answers to WHY questions by allowing each student to understand core course practical applications in our classroom. Experiencing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and understanding the social construct of society through history, all while communicating these technological ideas in writing, speech and reading are critical components in developing a well-rounded, mature, and successful student. Our standards help bridge the gap with other electives that incorporate basic life and work skills for family & personal development; business; employment; communication; entrepreneurship; creative, visual, and performing arts; and information technology.
Technology is the way we apply science through engineering for practical purposes. In short, technology is made by humans, makes our lives easier, and solves a problem. This concept is the foundation of learning technology and my motto in teaching these courses. I want students to have a well-rounded perceptive of how technology works in our daily lives. Students will learn that electronics is not the only form of technology. We venture into the seven areas of technology (energy and power, architecture/building construction, medical, manufacturing, agriculture/biotechnology, information technology, and transportation) and how they are interwoven in each course and their respective career clusters.
Engineering technology is the practical application of engineering techniques, through the engineering design process, in which real-world problems are solved using technology. Engineering, by itself, focuses on the development of concepts and studying how things work through experimentation and testing. We need engineering and mathematics to bridge science and technology as a social impact solution to our modern-day society.

Elko offers several courses in engineering technology based on grade level. Please take a moment to view the
specific web pages or download the brochure. Both will explain in detail about each course.
Intro to Technology and Engineering (Grade 6)
Inventions and Innovations (Grade 7)
Tech Systems and Manufacturing (Grade 8)
Technology Foundations (Grade 8 - High School Credit)
By using the Engineering Design Process. Students will learn how to develop and cultivate their ideas and develop STEM and STEAM strategies by modeling, simulation and fabrication.
CTE programs are designed to contribute to the broad educational achievement of students, including the development of academic, technical, and work readiness skills (the ability to work independently and as part of a team, think creatively, solve problems, and utilize technology). Students who complete CTE programs are prepared for a successful transition into postsecondary education and work. Opportunities are available for students to earn college credits through selected courses and to prepare for licensure and/or industry certifications related to their programs of study.
