NO! Only your immersion courses will be in Spanish, and you will only take 2-3 of these courses per year. Refer to the curriculum page for information about said courses and a sample schedule for your time in the program.
YES! Unlike other specialty centers at Tucker, like ACA and IB, you will not be stuck with the same classmates all 4 years of high school in the majority of your courses. Apart from your 2-3 immersion courses each year, which will be with Center for Spanish Language students, the rest of your classes will be integrated with the rest of the school's student body.
YES! Even if you are already fluent in the language, there are opportunities to learn about how the language works and the culture surrouding the language. You might even graduate speaking better Spanish than you did before!
NO! However, there is an entrance exam you must take prior to attending the center. You must also receive 2 letters of recommendation from your teachers (Spanish teachers are highly recommended!).
NO! The entrance exam is NOT pass or fail, instead it is an assessment of your current Spanish language skills to see what topics the upcoming class's Immersion 9 course have to cover/spend more time on. The purpose of the exam is to ensure everyone is on the same track to be on the same level of fluency by the end of your first year.
YES! Even though you are in the program, you have complete control over what level core subjects and non-program electives you decide to take; you may take College Prep, Honors, AP, and/or Dual-Enrollment courses all while being in the center.
You must have taken at least Spanish 1 during middle school, or be a native speaker, in order to apply.
