This course is for students with a great deal of interest in the education of children. Students will prepare for positions as early childhood educators in various settings. Teachers highlight basic skills of math, science, and communication when appropriate in the content. Any student identified as a CTE Completer must take an industry credential test. An industry credential test may be: an industry certification examination, licensure or occupational competency assessment as approved by the Virginia Board of Education. The CTE credential exam given in this course is: Workplace Readiness, ParaPro Assessment, and NOCTI Early Childhood Education and Care-Basic & Advance. These credentials will benefit students desiring to work in the education field. Students will also have the opportunity to receive credits through dual enrollment with J Sargeant Reynolds Community College.

Katie Vining is a JMU graduate (BBA in marketing) as well as a UR graduate (Early Childhood Education PreK-6). She is certified to teach PreK-6, and Family and Consumer Science 6-12. Mrs. Vining has been with Henrico County Public Schools for 12 years, and this will be her 4th year at the ACE Center at Highland Springs. She previously taught Pre-K for HCPS for 8 years (Sandston ES & Echo Lake ES), and is very passionate about Early Childhood Education! She currently teaches year one of Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Vining is married and is expecting her first child in January. She is also mom to a wonderful rescue pup, Ti. She is looking forward to another great year at ACE @ HS!

Peggy Briggs is a graduate of Liberty University with a Master’s degree in Human Services Counseling. She has been with Henrico County for 19 years but has worked with preschool children since high school. While she completed her coursework at Liberty, she worked as a Henrico County bus driver and instructional assistant. She finally found her “home” at Springer Preschool Academy as an instructional assistant. Mrs. Briggs has been at the ACE Center for the past 11 years. She works with the Early Childhood l students and the 2/3 year-old preschool children. To say she loves her job is an understatement! Mrs. Briggs is married and has two grown sons. She also has a 3 year-old granddaughter who is the love of her life! She looks forward to a brand new year in person and getting to know and love her new students, both big and small!

Adrienne Lambert has over 35 years of experience working in the Human Services field, 17 years working with children and teens. Ms. Lambert is teaching the very same Family and Consumer Science class that inspired her to want to be a teacher when she was in high school. As a result, she is fully aware of a teacher and a class's impact on a student.
Ms. Lambert holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology and Business with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from Virginia State University. She has been with Henrico County Public schools for 18 years teaching, spending seven years at Henrico High school, and ten years at The Advance Career Education Center at Highland Springs, Springer Preschool Academy. She is one of the 2/ 3-year-old Yellow Duckling preschool and second-year ECE teachers.

Mrs. Por is a graduate of VA Tech. She earned her Bachelor's in Human Development: Early Childhood Education and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. She also received her Supervision and Administration endorsement from Longwood. Mrs. Por has been with Henrico County Public Schools for over 14 years and has taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Mrs. Por is certified to teach PreK-6, Family and Consumer Science 6-12, and Health and Physical Education K-12. She works with the Early Childhood Education II students and is an Admin Aide. Mrs. Por is married with two wild and crazy boys and two wonderful dogs. She is so excited to have a wonderful year of fun and learning with her students!
