If you are concerned that your child may become anxious about the change to Secondary School, here are some suggestions that may help to reduce this.
*Give your child the opportunity to ask questions about their concerns and explain why the change will benefit them
*Work through the activities on this transition site e.g. Transition booklet
*Provide them with a worry toy, book or box where they can write or draw any concerns they have
*Take a look at the following website for more tips: https://www.youngminds.org.uk/parent/parents-a-z-mental-health-guide/transitions-and-times-of-change/
*Help them to be prepared for school and have all their equipment, planner, books and uniform ready
*Go through the timetable for the next day (it will be in their planner) and talk through any anxieties they may have
*Get into a good bedtime routine, limit screen time before bed - a useful tip is to ensure your child leaves their phone downstairs when going to bed
*Contact the Inclusion Team if there are any issues, so we can address these quickly
