Aloha!
My name is La Verne Williams- Schoonover, and I am the College and Career Counselor for Tahquitz High School. I have been a counselor within the Hemet Unified School District for 8 years, and I’ve worked in the field of education for over 23 years ranging from elementary, middle, high school, and college.
I lived in California for over 31 years, but I was born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawai’i. I am the proud mother of three beautiful children - Leilani, Maile, and Keanu - and Ziggy Mama, our loving Wheaten Terrier.
What does a College and Career Counselor do?
The most rewarding feeling in the world is being part of a bigger picture in making a difference in another individual’s life - this is why I became a counselor.
My passion is helping students realize their full potential by connecting them towards opportunities that aid in their educational and personal development. It is an honor and privilege to equip students with the skills and resources to reach that “aha” moment in their life. If their path leads towards college, vocational, military, or workforce we are here to assist all students needs. There is no greater joy than to see a student rise above their challenges, walk hand-in-hand with what was once seen as the “impossible,” and embrace their individuality and purpose with confidence.
