Dual Enrollment
Dual Enrollment (DE) courses allow qualified high school students to:
earn college and high school credit at the same time
students can take DE courses in Career Technical Education or as an alternative to Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes
Why Dual Enrollment?
Save time and money
Easier transition to college
Preparation for the rigors of college-level studies
Articulated Credit
Articulated courses offer students the opportunity to earn early college credit. A formal agreement with the high school teacher and college faculty that:
curriculum, including textbooks, syllabus, and course outline are the same.
the final exam score will be used as a credit-by-exam for the comparable college course.
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate
Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses are rigorous, college-level classes.
Students in IB:
many classes are taken throughout the junior and senior year and culminate into the early college opportunity by exam
classes give extra weight (strengthen student’s GPA) to IB class grades.
the IB program is offered at West Valley High School.
Students in AP:
advanced Placement classes can be semester or year-long courses.
classes give extra weight (strengthen student’s GPA) to AP class grades.
