Joint ISrael Programs

JOINT ISRAEL PROGRAMS

A Joint Israel Program is a program sponsored by an American College that enables its enrolled students to study abroad in Israel. One needs to apply and be accepted to both the Israel school and the sponsoring College. There are several benefits to being enrolled in a Joint Israel Program:

Academic: Students earn college credits while studying in Israel and those credits are easily transferred from one American institution to another. This transcript can also be helpful when applying to graduate school.

Financial: Registered students in the sponsoring schools who qualify for financial aid through FAFSA may access these funds for Israel study. Additionally, you may use a 529 Plan to pay for your year in Israel, ONLY if you are on a joint program.

Benefits in Israel: The sponsoring school has an office in Israel and often organizes events for program participants and provides extra support to students and parents.

Please Note: Participation in a Joint Israel Program is contingent on meeting the admission criteria and being accepted to the sponsoring American college. Students are encouraged to apply to these schools by the regular application deadlines.

S. Daniel Abraham Israel Program:

Study in Israel translates into one year of elective credit at YU. As a result, most students returning to New York after studying in Israel enter YU as sophomores and credit earned in Israel appears directly on their YU transcript. The program gives students access to YU's roshei yeshiva and liberal arts and business faculty. It also sponsors lectures and shiurim featuring prominent rabbeim and lecturers. All federal and state aid is available, including Pell, work-study, Perkins and Stafford loans as well as New York State TAP. It is important to apply early so the money is available to support your participation in the Israel Program. Once the processed FAFSA is received by the YU Office of Student Aid, a Financial Aid Allocation Letter will be sent to you. Click here for more information.

The Touro College Israel Option offers students up to 36 credits toward their bachelor’s degree after completing your year in Israel. LCM has partnered with 18 post-secondary men’s yeshivas in Israel, and LCM faculty and deans regularly visit participating yeshivas, so support is always close at hand.

How to Apply

Students interested in the Israel Option should apply to both Lander College for Men and the desired Israeli institution.

Upon acceptance to Lander College for Men, admitted students interested in the Touro College Israel Option (TCIO) will receive a Tuition Contract to Participate in the Touro College Israel Option (TCIO). After submission of the tuition contract, the contract will be reviewed and a determination will be made. If approved, the student must submit all requested documents and make appropriate tuition payments to Touro College prior to their departure to Israel.

Students admitted to LCM on a probationary basis or students residing outside of the US may not participate in the Israel Option.

Tuition and Aid

Students who complete and submit all required documents by June 15th are eligible for the discounted administrative fee of $1,100. Starting June 16 the enrollment fee will be $1,250. If paid on or after September 1, the fee will be $1,450. Students who complete their year in Israel, will receive a tuition credit of $550 towards their first fall or spring semester when returning to any of Touro’s Lander Colleges.

The administrative fee and all tuition for the Israel institution is payable online to the Touro College Bursar. Detailed instructions will be included with the Tuition Contract.

TCIO students can elect to pay their tuition through “529” accounts and/or may be eligible to receive federal tax credits for tuition paid to Lander College for Men. Please contact your accountant for additional information.

We encourage all students to explore our numerous Financial Aid options to help offset the cost of their education in Israel and in New York. TCIO students may qualify for federal grants and student loans.

Credits, Grades, Transcripts

Students who successfully complete a year of full-time study in Israel may earn up to 36 credits if enrolled in the Touro College Israel Option (TCIO). They may earn 24 credits directly from Israel Option courses, and up to an additional 12 transfer credits upon their return to Touro College. Grades earned in Israel Option courses will appear on students’ transcripts, and are calculated in their Touro academic record. The grading system for these courses follows the American system, with letter grades A to F, for all courses with a written or oral final exam.

Enrollment with Lander College for Men TCIO Program is a mutual commitment. We expect students to complete their undergraduate studies at LCM. Only Touro College students are eligible to participate in the TCIO. Students may not hold a deferral at another institution during their time in the Touro College Israel Option program. If you are holding a deferral at another college, you are not eligible to participate in the TCIO.
